1. Start the Night Before: Prepare for a Smooth Morning

A calm morning actually starts the night before. By setting yourself up for success, you’ll wake up feeling more at ease and less rushed. Here’s how:

  • Set out your clothes: Choose your outfit the night before to avoid decision fatigue in the morning.
  • Tidy up before bed: A clean space creates a calm mindset when you wake up.
  • Go to bed early: Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep. Good sleep hygiene is key to feeling rested and energized in the morning.

A clutter-free environment helps reduce stress levels, which is why I recommend investing in simple organizing tools. One of my favorite products for this is the cosmetic skincare organizer, which makes it so much easier to keep everything in place. No more messy desk!

2. Wake Up Gently

Jumping out of bed with a loud, jarring alarm is one of the quickest ways to start your day on the wrong foot. Instead, try waking up with a gentle sound or light to ease yourself into the day.

Consider using the Hatch Restore Alarm Clock, which is designed to gradually increase light in the morning and allow soothing sounds to help you wake up naturally. The Hatch Restore doesn’t just wake you up, it also promotes better sleep with relaxing features like white noise, meditative sounds, and a nightlight. It’s perfect for creating a calming, peaceful start to your morning and sets the tone for a stress-free day ahead.

3. Hydrate First Thing

Drinking a glass of water right after you wake up is one of the simplest, most effective ways to start your day with a boost. After hours of sleep, your body is naturally dehydrated, so hydrating first thing helps kickstart your metabolism, improve your mood, and get your brain functioning properly.

For an extra dose of wellness, try adding a squeeze of lemon to your water. Lemon water is known for its detoxifying properties and can aid digestion. Plus, it gives you a refreshing burst of energy!

Pro Tip: Prepare a bottle of water before you go to sleep, and place it on your bedside table. That way it’s right in your face when you wake up as a reminder to DRINK UP!

4. Practice Mindful Breathing or Meditation

A great way to clear your mind and prepare for the day ahead is through mindful breathing or meditation. These practices help you reduce stress, improve focus, and promote emotional balance.

Start with just 5 minutes of deep breathing or a simple guided meditation to center yourself. You can use apps like Headspace or Calm, both of which offer amazing morning meditations.

Fact: Studies have shown that meditation can lower cortisol (the stress hormone) and improve mental clarity. So, taking just a few minutes to breathe deeply can help you start the day feeling calm and focused.

5. Stretch or Do Gentle Yoga

Stretching or doing a few gentle yoga poses in the morning helps wake up your muscles and release any tension from sleep. It doesn’t have to be a full-on workout—just 10-15 minutes of simple stretches can get your body moving and boost circulation.

I love using the Essentials Yoga Kit, which includes a High density yoga mat, yoga blocks, a booty resistance band set, and a carrying bag. It’s a great way to add a few minutes of self-care to your routine without feeling overwhelmed.

6. Take a Refreshing Shower or Wash Your Face

If you’re someone who loves a good shower to wake up, go ahead and treat yourself to a refreshing cleanse. For a calming, spa-like experience, I recommend using a gentle body wash or a calming shower oil.

If you prefer something quicker, washing your face with cold water is a great way to invigorate your senses. Follow up with a nourishing moisturizer to hydrate your skin and lock in that fresh, dewy glow.

My go-to for moisturizing is the CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser. It’s gentle, effective, and leaves your skin feeling smooth and refreshed.

7. Eat a Balanced Breakfast

Fuel your body with a balanced breakfast that includes protein, fiber, and healthy fats. Think avocado toast, oatmeal with chia seeds, or a smoothie with spinach, banana, and almond butter. Eating a nutritious meal in the morning can improve your energy levels, regulate your blood sugar, and prevent the mid-morning crash.

Try meal prepping your breakfast the night before for even less stress. Oats Overnight makes delicious, ready-to-eat oatmeal pouches that are perfect for busy mornings.

8. Set Your Intentions for the Day

A great way to stay calm and focused throughout your day is by setting clear intentions. Take a few moments to write down your top 3 priorities or personal goals. Whether it’s getting a big task done at work, taking time for self-care, or simply staying present, setting intentions helps you stay grounded.

Fact: People who set daily intentions are more likely to stay focused and feel a greater sense of purpose.

9. Incorporate a Little Creativity or Joy

Whether it’s journaling, painting, or reading, find something that sparks joy and creativity to brighten your morning. Dedicating even 10 minutes to a hobby can help you feel more centered and positive as you begin your day.

If you’re into journaling, I highly recommend the Five-Minute Journal. It’s a simple, structured journal that encourages gratitude, reflection, and goal-setting.

10. Avoid Digital Distractions

One of the best ways to keep your morning calm is by avoiding digital distractions, especially social media and emails. Try not to check your phone as soon as you wake up. Instead, focus on your morning routine and give yourself time to wake up without the noise of the digital world.

If you feel the urge to check your phone, try setting a “no-phone” rule for the first 30 minutes of your day. Use this time to focus on self-care or reflection, and leave the emails and notifications for later.

Final Thoughts: Create a Morning Routine That Works for You

The key to a calm morning routine is finding what works best for you. While these steps are a great starting point, don’t be afraid to experiment and adjust based on your lifestyle. Some people thrive with a more active morning, while others prefer slow, intentional movements. The most important thing is that your morning sets a positive tone for your day.

Start small by adding one or two of these practices into your routine and see how it makes you feel. The goal is not perfection but a sense of calm, clarity, and purpose as you move through your day.

By incorporating these steps into your daily routine, you’ll start each day feeling more centered, calm, and ready to take on whatever comes your way. Remember, the key to a perfect morning is consistency, not perfection. Start with small changes, and watch your mornings transform into moments of peace and clarity.
